THE UIM MOURNS THE PASSING AWAY OF TULLIO ABBATE

The international powerboating community is deeply saddened by the loss of Italian boat builder, designer and talented pilot, Tullio Abbate, 75, who succumbed to COVID-19 after a few days of hospitalization in San Raffaele, Milan.

Born in 1944, son of Guido Abbate, Tullio founded his own shipyard in 1969 on the shores of Lake Como in Italy. The Transalpine builder quickly specialized in the manufacture of offshore type powerboats. In total, more than 8,000 motorboats from 21’ to more than 50 feet were produced at the eponymous shipyard and sold worldwide.

Tullio Abbate was also very well known for his talents as a powerboat driver. He won numerous international offshore and inshore Championship races and became a world reference in powerboat racing.

The UIM honors the memory of this Powerboating legend and expresses the deepest condolences to his family and friends.
