Monaco, April 17, 2024 – The annual UIM mid-Term meetings assembled the Members of the UIM Council in Amsterdam, together with the Commissions in charge of the fundamental Powerboat racing disciplines, to fine tune the regulatory framework of the sport and to prepare essential initiatives that will shape the future of Powerboating.
Under the chair of UIM President Raffaele Chiulli, the UIM Council confirmed the nomination of the eight Members of the UIM E1 Committee, in charge of the newly created UIM E1 World Championship and it ratified the final version of the Sports and technical Regulations applicable in the 2024 edition. The technical and media reports presented to the UIM Council by E1 evidenced the immense success of the Opening Round of said Championship held in Jeddah, which heralds a most promising future for this pioneering form of electric powerboat racing.
The UIM Council also approved amendments of the Procedural Rules of the UIM’s Appeal Court (ICA) which aim at streamlining and expediting related proceedings. Following the example of the International Olympic Committee, the UIM Council decided to align with the position adopted by the IOC on 8th Dec. 2023 and to allow participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes as “Neutral Individual Athletes” (“AIN’s”) in international powerboating Events organized under the auspices of the UIM.
The UIM Council meeting experienced a special moment when UIM President Raffaele Chiulli presented the “Medal of Honor for Sport” to UIM Formulae Committee chairman Pelle Larsson (SWE), awarded to him by UIM COMINSPORT in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the Powerboating Sport.
Furthermore, the UIM Council distinguished the Fujairah International Marine Club for their continued pioneering achievements in the field of Youth Development in the Powerboating Sport. Ahmed Ebrahim Alblooshi, FIMC Managing Director and Chairman of the UIM YDP Committee, received the distinction from the hands of UIM President Raffaele Chiulli.
The UIM Commissions dedicated substantial time to reviewing the UIM Rules across disciplines, seeking to optimize structures and functioning of the 2024 UIM racing season and to ensure a seamless experience for both the drivers and the spectators. Other matters discussed were the schedule for UIM World and Continental Championship events in 2024 and 2025 and powerboat racing safety aspects, which shall be further explored through expert research work.
