A record number of participants aged between 6 and 18, representing 11 nationalities, competed in six boat classes at the 2024 UIM Formula Future World Championships held in Liepaja, Latvia. Under the attentive eyes of UIM President Raffaele Chiulli and Latvian Water Motorsport Federation President Atis Slakteris, the enthusiastic young drivers vied for top honors.
UIM President Raffaele Chiulli praised the excellent organization of the Championships and expressed his delight in witnessing the event in Liepaja: “I am proud of this new generation of drivers, and I look forward to seeing them compete in other boat classes in the future. Their enthusiasm is a guarantee for the future of our sport.”
The UIM Formula Future is designed to encourage new generations to compete on the water, demonstrating their skills, safety, and environmental awareness. Teams of girls and boys from UIM National Authorities came together not only to compete but also to promote cultural exchange between different nations, ensuring a diverse mix of participants.
The Formula Future aligns with our UIM YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME "PROPSTARS." This project, which began a few years ago, has evolved into the comprehensive training program and syllabus we see today. Professional training for future generations of powerboat racing competitors and officials is one of the UIM's highest priorities. Our goal is to establish a worldwide network of training centers to ensure the sport's success and growth.
In recent years, the UIM Propstars Program has started to attract new young talents who receive training and education through our National Authorities. The UIM Propstars training program teaches competitors and officials of all ages the principles of safe, responsible, and environmentally friendly racing.
