After a hiatus of seven years, the World Championship for the Unlimited Superboats, LS Class and International Group A Jet Sprint categories was held in New Zealand, organized by the New Zealand Jetsprint Association.
Forty six teams with competitors coming as far away as Australia and USA fought for the three world titles that were up for grabs, and the many spectators massed on the hills of Wanaka and Whanganui, where the Championship’s Rounds 1 and 2 took place, certainly enjoyed the show.
In the Unlimited Superboats class, Australians Phonsy Mullen and Narelle Pellow-Djukic emerged victorious with a win on both rounds in front of Sam Newdick and Shama Puturanui (NZL), while Reuben Hoeksema and Suzi Katavich (NZL) finished third. This is the second world title for Phonsy Mullan, who was not the only member of the family to shine on the water.

Bastian and Tahleah Mullan, Phonsy’s own son and daughter, won the World Championship in the LS Class against US rivals River Rogers and Cole Keats. Kyle Elphinstone and Jacob Bellamy from Australia took third place on the podium.
With navigator Amanda Kittow, defending UIM World Champion Ollie Silverton from New Zealand was crowned for the second time in the International Group A category after a tight battle with two Aussie teams, Brendan Doyle and Holley Small in Boat #500 and Justin Roylance with Tracey Little in Boat#156.
Congratulations to all the participating teams and to the new world champions! Head over to the calendar section of the UIM website to see the results.
