The second
UIM-titled event of the year for the Circuit F4 class in the speed competition
format took place last weekend in Aluksne, Latvia, where drivers lined up with
one goal in mind: winning the European Championship title.
Contested
over a single round comprising four heats, the equation was straightforward:
the driver with the highest points tally at the end of the event would be
crowned European Champion.
Defending
World Champion Nils Slakteris, who moved up to the Circuit F2 category this
year, returned to the F4 grid for the occasion on his home waters of Aluksne.
He faced competitions from twelve other drivers from Latvia, Sweden, Hungary,
Finland, Germany and Lithuania.
After the
two heats held on Saturday, 4 July, Nils Slakteris led the championship
standings with two race victories, closely followed by Hungary's Attila Horvath
and Sweden's Adam Wrenkler, who finished second and third respectively in both
heats.
On Sunday,
the first heat of the day and third of the weekend was declared cancelled, with
no points awarded following accidents at the original start and at the restart.
Under UIM regulations, no more than one restart is permitted for events with
heats.
In the
fourth and final heat, Nils Slakteris secured another victory to claim the
European Championship title with a score of 1,200 points. Following review of protests, Adam Wrenkler
finished second overall, while Attila Horvath completed the podium in third
despite being involved in accidents during the final two scheduled heats.
The next
event for the Circuit F4 class will be the highly anticipated second round of
the UIM F4 World Championship in Viverone, Italy, organized alongside the UIM
F2 European Championship from 7 to 9 August.
