UIM E1 World Championship: Historic Opening in Jeddah

The Opening Round of the UIM E1 World Championship in Jeddah has set the latest milestone in the History of the UIM, with exciting sessions of electric powerboat racing in the waters of the Red Sea. Eight Teams, owned by iconic personalities from the world of Sports, Music and Entertainment, such as Tim Brady (NFL), Rafael Nadal (Tennis), Sergio Perez (Formula 1), Virat Kohli (Cricket) Didier Drogba (Football), Steve Aoki (DJ), Marc Anthony (Singer-Songwriter, Actor) and Marcelo Claure (Technology Investor) were represented each by a male and female pilot, who battled it out over two days under the Jeddah sunshine.

“Team Brady” eventually finished on top of the final ranking, ahead of “Team Miami” and “Team Rafa” who came third, under the eyes of UIM President Raffaele Chiulli, E1 Series President Alejandro Agag, and E1 CEO Rodi Basso. The UIM President was deeply impressed by the close competition between the eight Teams and the unprecedented powerboat racing scenes offered by the futuristic “ReaceBirds” gliding over the water.

Raffaele Chiulli said: “By launching the UIM E1 World Championship here in Jeddah we take the eco-sustainable development of our Sport to unprecedented levels. We are proud to showcase this spectacular result of technological innovation and pioneering transition towards future environmental friendly mobility on water.”
