FIRST EVER UIM GENERAL ASSEMBLY HELD IN VIRTUAL FORMAT ON-LINE

The exceptional circumstances caused by the COVID-19 pandemic have impacted the Powerboat Sport both on and off the water, as the UIM held its Annual General Assembly meeting for the first time in its almost 100 years of existence in a virtual format, by video conference, concluding in this way a series of on-line meetings of its Commissions and Committees held in the build-up.

The UIM President, Dr. Raffaele Chiulli, welcomed the large participation of the Member Federations and their delegates, irrespective of the very challenging and unusual context.

“A significant part of our time and attention was absorbed by matters related to the pandemic, which will accelerate ‘change’ in many areas, and I commend the delegates of our Member Federations for their active contribution in our work for a brighter future of the Powerboating sport. ‘Sustainable Development’ is our main focus, and we have set projects in motion which open up new fields of activity for our Sport. I trust, these initiatives will give us a lot of satisfaction in the times to come”.

Among the various areas of development emerge the newly integrated MotoSurf discipline as well as the UIM E1 World Electric Powerboat Championship, promoted by the Founders of the FIA Formula E and EXTREME E Series, the relaunch of the UIM XCAT World Championship with a new Promoter partner and the cooperation with Powerboat P1 to bring the UIM Class 1 World Championship back to the pinnacle of Offshore Powerboat racing.
